This Cornish country kitchen with modern and glamourous touches was created in close collaboration with the homeowner, whose distinctive style underpinned the project. The brief was to turn a draughty little used sitting room into a stylish and practical kitchen dining space, keeping the best of the traditional features and combining them with a 21st century, sophisticated finish.
The standout feature in this kitchen is the mosaic tiled wall, made from natural stone with a durable gold finish. The wall is lit from above by cinema spots, it adds warmth and texture as well as reflecting the natural moorland light. The layout is sociable and practical, with work surfaces focused on the black gloss wooden topped island, also containing dishwasher, bin and clever storage for cooking implements and ingredients.
The custom built shutters and table complement the exisiting wooden floor which has been sanded back, resealed and refinished. Traditional touches are maintained and enhanced by the black painted beams and woodwork, wood burner and newly installed cast iron radiators. The soft grey colour palette unifies the space and provides a neutral backdrop for the client’s own distinctive artwork.
