Townhouse Sitting Room

Since moving in, the owners of this London Georgian townhouse had struggled to find a good use for the whole ground floor of their home. What could be a lovely bright sitting room was used as a storage zone for kids toys. Design Penguin proposed a smart yet comfortable adult space, with all pink plastic banished to the family room downstairs.

The feature window and shutters were painted deep blue to accentuate them and the high ceilings, against a simple off-white backdrop. An original cast iron fireplace and mantle was sourced from a specialist supplier and topped with a stylish gold mirror. The room was finished with a bespoke gold chandelier, marble coffee table, and sumptuous velvet furnishings in bold jewel colours.

To add more warmth, we selected a subtle gold wallpaper for the alcoves, lit from below by mirrored table lamps on marble console tables. Bespoke occasional chairs were made in a subtle deco patterned fabric to coordinate with the wallpaper, and also the window blind used at the rear of the room. The designs transformed the room into an elegant adult space for entertaining and relaxation.
